We now have several programs running year after year in schools across the country—and also within the foundation. Not as a pilot program, but as an approach that proves its worth time and again.
1) BMI methodology: Basketball with Impact (6 years proven)
We have been applying the BMI (Basketball with Impact) methodology for six years, primarily with groups 6, 7, and 8—and sometimes with first-year students as well. It is a year-long program in which we start where the children start.
Basketball is the means to an end. The goal: to strengthen life skills , collaborate, develop executive skills, and at the same time simply unwind physically.
What makes BMI particularly strong: – Grounded in the growth mindset model – Guided and supported by an SKJ-registered behavioral scientist – Works with an individual skills map (progress visible and open for discussion) – Hundreds of children have already participated successfully—some even for several years
You can find more about this on our website and via our partner page Basketball with Impact.
2) STAR training with Fun4all: behavior, culture and self-reflection
Over the past six months, we have been working intensively with Fun4all , our social partner for behavioral training using sport as a tool. We are active with three trainers, and at a strategic level, we collaborate with Roel (founder of Fun4all) and the developer of the STAR methodology :
Sportivity
Tteamwork
Aacceptance
Rspect
The idea is powerful and practical: in 4 to 5 workshops, each year group (from grades 1 to 5) is structurally exposed to the STAR pillars, with a different pillar central each week.
What I personally find very strong is that it doesn't stop after workshop 5. Teachers are included and receive manuals and workbooks, so that STAR can be a common thread throughout the school culture.
3) Streetwise LSR: a recognized diploma before your MAVO/HAVO diploma
The Streetwise LSR program has become indispensable. After two years of success with the Thorbecke Talentschool and nearly a hundred students graduating with a diploma, we said: this is bigger than one school.
We are now integrating this program with LO2 as a unique feature within the educational landscape. Young people are trained to become sports leaders, with a recognized diploma as a foundation.
What it delivers is gold: – Young people learn to teach and take charge – They develop responsibility and social involvement – They gain insight into themselves and the group – And they build skills that go beyond sports
