Glow In the Dark children's birthday

    Events

Gamechangers project at The Hague football club

About two months ago, I got a call from a passionate father. He mentioned he was planning a big themed party for his son's fifth birthday, as he's crazy about basketball. He saw what Showcase Basketball had to offer on social media and my website, so he decided to give me a call. Children's birthdays aren't normally part of my repertoire, but this father's enthusiasm was infectious, and I always love interacting with children, so I decided to be open to his idea. It turned out to be a large family party in Woerden with over 100 guests, including at least 30 children. We discussed what elements his father wanted, and at the last minute, we decided to make it a glow-in-the-dark party, complete with face painting. It had to be a birthday to remember, a true basketball experience.

On the day in question, we receive a warm welcome, as if we've known each other for ages. We quickly set up everything. Then the first partygoers arrive, dressed in basketball outfits to match the theme. Little Job, the birthday boy—dressed in a costumed Miami Heat outfit—goes absolutely wild when he sees the arcade machine. His dad wasn't exaggerating: he shoots at least 500 balls into the basket. Tireless and incredibly driven. I watch in amazement as he scores a remarkable number of shots. Until this moment, I could hardly imagine anyone loving basketball as much as I do, but I think I've found him.

From the stage, Dad welcomes everyone. The DJ starts the music, and I'm announced. The floor is filled with happy children and parents. Just before I kick off with a freestyle basketball show, a 4-year-old girl sweetly gives me a popcorn. The children are incredibly excited when they see what's possible with a basketball, and the parents also clap enthusiastically along to the music. After that, we move on to the workshop, which is accessible, of course, because most children are no older than 5. After an hour of activity, all the children are allowed to line up, and the proud parents are ready with their phones to take a picture of their child holding a spinning basketball on their finger. Then we go to the gymnasium adjacent to the party center, where we play some more basketball. As a surprise, the children see the bouncy castle there in the shape of a large basketball. They scream, jump, and laugh. It's pure joy and freedom. I enjoy a meal with them and have some interesting conversations with the attendees. It was a really great experience. This way I can do a children's birthday party more often.
