Glow in the dark: Time to Glow Leyp in Ypenburg

For a few months, together with the Strohm Foundation , we worked towards one goal: to make the final event of the youth relay in Leidschenveen-Ypenburg (Leyp) an experience you won't “just” forget. Not because you could already play basketball—but because you dared to participate, tried new things, and above all: felt connected . That, for me, is the essence of glow in the dark.

From plan to practice (with a team that stands)

What I personally found very strong: the organization by the municipality via the Strohm Foundation was tightly controlled. Clear communication regarding the target group and location ( Pietvink Sports Hall , Ypenburg) gave us the space to do what we are good at: building experiences.

And yes—that includes the "invisible work." We sent a personalized email to schools in the area asking them to forward it to students so no one would miss this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Noël's core task: script, checklists and… Trello on green

Noël (aka Noegie) took on this event as his final core task, and I watched with pride as he—with the right guidance—developed the script, checklists, and activities in meticulous detail. And then came the moment when you were expecting (only) 60 young people… but registrations had to close a week before the event due to the enormous interest.

The day before, all the stuff was packed, checked off in Trello, and it was simple: focus on energy, safety and flow.

The construction: three halls, lasers and an immediate atmosphere

On the day itself we had a strong team: – Vincent Krieger (aka Vinrock) – Kenny (aka Coach K) – Galdino (aka Showcase) – Aldimir (aka Vladimir) – Noël (aka Noegie)

In just under two hours, we transformed the gymnasium (three halls) into a complete glow-in-the-dark experience with laser lights. Smoke machines weren't allowed—they would have made it even more intense—but honestly, the vibe was instant.

The start: make-up, excitement and an opening show

Children (and parents) were ready half an hour beforehand. First, they had to report absences, then glow-in-the-dark face paint was applied to their arms and faces—and then: everyone was seated, lights out, excitement building.

Vincent announced me, and I was asked to perform the opening show. You immediately knew: this was going to be one of those.

Interactive warm-up and rotation on the fields

After the show, we warmed up and divided the courts into halves. Each half-court had a coach with a specific activity. Rotating, trying out new skills, encouraging each other—exactly what we were aiming for.

Break, challenges and prizes

After the break, the challenges began. There were fun prizes: mini-balls, sunglasses, socks, and even a drinking cup. It wasn't about the prizes, but about giving kids that extra spark that would make them just a little bit more daring.

Parties: fanatical, but above all together

And then the best part: after almost two hours of activity, it was time for games. Enthusiastic? Certainly. But above all, together. Several fields at once, parents on the sidelines, smiling faces everywhere.
