LSR Streetwise final event: from tension to ownership

April had it all: energy, healthy tension, and that moment when you see young people surpass themselves. During the LSR Streetwise final event At Thorbecke Talentschool, ten young people from 3 MAVO (Three Mavo) were given a special mission: to organize a sports day for an older group of 4th and 5th year VWO students.

From idea to game rules: it had everything.

What this LSR Streetwise final event made it so strong: they handled the entire process. Not just 'supervising an activity', but truly the complete picture.

They built their own sports day
  • Devising and testing activities
  • Planning and organizing
  • Write down and explain the rules of the game
  • Assigning roles and taking responsibility

And yes: teaching students who are 2–3 years older? That takes some adjusting. The tension was there. You could see it in their faces.

Practice, grow, dare

In the months leading up to this, they had weeks to practice: first on their own classmates, then on a group of first-year students. And every week you saw the same pattern: a little more calm, a little more voice, a little more daring.

What I personally found great: these ten young people had organized a final event earlier than the rest of Drie Mavo. They had proven themselves. That is why they were standing there now. And that confidence was shared by the PE section of Thorbecke as well as by project manager Randy.

Creative games that stick with you

As Showcase Basketball, we are always delighted by individuality. And there was plenty of that here. From Australian style to dodgeball, from Flagball to rondo with dodgeball (yes: football, dodgeball, and running all in one game). Something for everyone.

Everyone taught in their own way
  • One person set the atmosphere with music
  • The other person led by example and set the example.
  • Yet another, on the other hand, followed the rules extremely strictly.

And the best part: everyone was standing there. Literally and figuratively.

The moment the pressure drops

During the LSR Streetwise final event You saw the turning point. Tense at first. But as soon as they got started and saw those smiles from the 4th and 5th year students, the pressure disappeared. The fun returned. Ownership took over.

And then you remember why we do this: to do something for others, to show what is possible when you invest time, energy, and a bit of courage.

Degrees, ambition and the next step

A result we are proud of: all ten young people passed their LSR 1 diplomaAnd two of them are already further along in teaching and are ambitiously pursuing Level 2This final event was one of the events they needed for that.

Now follows the next chapter: the portfolio. They will look in the neighborhood and surroundings of Thorbecke to see how they can complete their portfolio and internship hours. In doing so, they not only become stronger for themselves but also visible role models for the school, the community, and fellow students.

Looking ahead: June/July is going to be big

We enjoyed it again. And honestly: this was just the beginning. In June and July, the other 50 students from 3 MAVO will also run their final events.

LSR Streetwise final event In April? It was a party again.
