Sometimes you come across places where you immediately feel you can make a difference. I had that feeling at PROVSO.Works, a wonderful initiative by Annette van Waning. I met Annette, a social entrepreneur with a big heart, at a FIN members' meeting where I was asked to deliver an energizer. When she asked me to give a talk to young people facing distance from the labor market, I felt honored. The idea that my story could serve as inspiration immediately energized me.

How do you prepare for a room full of 500 young people? I decided to keep it mostly spontaneous. Of course, I had a general plan, but I believe that authenticity and immersion in the moment are key to connection. On my way to the iconic Van Nelle Factory, I ran into a few young people who enthusiastically shouted, "Hey, Galdino, Showcase!" That immediately gave me a good feeling and set the tone for the rest of the day.

The Van Nelle Factory was transformed into an impressive venue. Five hundred chairs, a large stage, and the powerful slogan on the screen: PROVSO.Works. Turns job opportunities into opportunities. The room slowly filled up as the loudspeakers announced it was time for the show. Annette introduced me, and with a bound onto the stage, I began my presentation.

I began my talk on a personal note. I shared my own struggles: the labeling, the pain, and the challenges I faced as a child. But also how I used these experiences as accelerators instead of demotivators. My message was clear: mistakes aren't obstacles, but learning opportunities. The process is more important than the end result.

To emphasize my words, I immediately went into action. A show in which I showcased my passion for basketball, supported by music and visuals. Although a small mistake occurred – the ball rolled off the stage – I kept going, and that only made the moment stronger. It symbolized exactly what I wanted to convey: how do you cope with setbacks?

My presentation was followed by an interactive session. Using green and red pieces of paper, the young people could indicate whether they agreed or disagreed with statements. This led to open and honest conversations. Statements such as “What is more important: making money or having fun in what you do?” led to interesting discussions. Even young people who are normally more reserved opened up.

The session ended with a Ask Me Anything, where questions ranged from my level in basketball to how I handle criticism or setbacks. It was wonderful to see how engaged the young people were and how much they were willing to share.

Afterward, young people lingered for photos, autographs, and personal conversations. The most valuable thing was the questions they asked. It gave me the opportunity to truly engage in conversation and offer them some perspective.

When I left the Van Nelle Factory, several people from the organization thanked me for my openness and authenticity. The best compliment? That I managed to keep 500 young people, who are normally difficult to silence, captivated for almost fifty minutes. It reaffirmed to me that honesty and staying true to yourself are always the right path.

I want to thank Annette van Waning and the team at PROVSO.Works for their trust and the platform they've provided me. It was an honor to share my story and hopefully make a difference in the lives of these young people.
