Every year, Nijmegen hosts an outdoor event: Podium aan de Waal. It's a wonderful collaboration between Theater Lindenberg and De Schoenfabriek. It's a free event that focuses on art, culture, and sports. This year's theme is urban sports, which is why the event has been renamed Urban aan de Waal. Visitors can experience urban circus, freerunning, breakdancing, and freestyle basketball.
We receive a warm welcome from the organizers, the breakdancers, and community sports coach Darryl, who connected us. Despite the changeable weather, the stone stage along the Waal River looks inviting. To beat the rain, the freestyle basketball show starts an hour earlier than scheduled. That gives me three minutes to warm up before I'm loudly announced. The show immediately captures the attention of the attendees, and their enthusiasm swells. After the basketball show, the freerunners are ready to show off their skills. They've created a special course where children can jump from a bus onto a large inflatable in a fun way.
Then it's time for the workshops. Engaged parents want to learn a few tricks with their children. It's a beautiful day, especially since my family is there. We finish just in time before the rain comes pouring down. It's nice to end the weekend with my family at a nearby hotel.
